While I commend our Home Team officers for exercising restraint during the Little India riot, there needs to be a constructive discussion on how best to improve the response time.

Officers from the Special Operations Command, Gurkha contingent and Singapore Civil Defence Force could not get to the area quickly because of the jam of people and vehicles ("Worker was drunk when he got on bus: Witnesses"; Dec 10).

The authorities could consider collaborating with the Defence Ministry to use military and medical aircraft, such as helicopters, to transport Home Team officers quickly to any troubled site. A way must be found for helicopters to land safely on high-rise buildings.
