Cops foil robbers from hauling ATM

Police managed to foil a four-man team trying to cut open three ATM machines in a Petaling Jaya petrol station after beating and tying up a security guard at USJ 21 here.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli said the four suspects, believed to be Indonesian nationals, tied the 33-year-old security guard's hands with a cable and beat him up after parking their two motorcycles in the station. However, several minutes later, a police patrol car arrived at the scene causing all four suspects to flee.

He added that the guard had some bruises on his face and wrists and was sent to the hospital for treatment.

ACP Yahaya said the suspects had abandoned one of the motorcycles when they were fleeing adding that police were able to seize several items left on the motorcycle including an oxygen tank, a knuckle duster, some cables, a vehicle registration plate, black tape, spray can and a blue bag.

He added that the case is investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery.
