Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has posted a net profit of S$870 million in the second quarter.

SingTel, Southeast Asia's largest telecommunications operator, draws a large part of its earnings from overseas markets, and it said regional associates like Telkomsel in Indonesia have done well in the second quarter.

The telco said the impact from the introduction of cross carriage for the Barclays Premier League (BPL) football content was limited.

Sachin Gupta, Nomura's regional head of telco research (Asia ex-Japan), said: "Cross carriage, especially the BPL, was a surprise. I think StarHub's net add was about 2,000 in the same period and SingTel actually added 8,000."
