Eight personnel from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) are taking part in the ASEAN Disaster Emergency Response Simulation Exercise 2013 in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The exercise is being held from Monday to Thursday with the aim to test the coordination and cooperation between Vietnam and participating ASEAN member states in carrying out joint disaster search and rescue, and relief operations for a major disaster.

This is the fifth time ASEAN and its member states have come together for the exercise.

SCDF said the exercise enhances regional cooperation and coordination in disaster relief and helps facilitate a common understanding in disaster response and management among rescue teams.
