A father could only watch in horror when a vehicle, which was being pursued by a police car, ploughed into them, killing his only son and injuring two other relatives.

T. Thamilarasan, 18 months old, died at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here at 5am yesterday after being transferred from Kampar Hospital for further treatment.

T. Thenarasu, 24, said at the time of the incident at 11pm on Saturday, he, his wife and child were at a relative's wedding dinner at Kampung Kopisan, Gopeng.

Thenarasu, who was still clad in a blood-soaked shirt when met at the mortuary, said he had yet to accept his son's death.

"One moment he was with us, and before we know it, our bundle of joy is dead."

He berated the driver for his recklessness. "He continued driving on after ploughing into the tables and chairs," he said.

Confirming the incident, Kampar police chief Superintendent Ng Kong Soon said police were on their crime-prevention rounds when the incident occurred.

"The policemen on their rounds spotted that the Proton Persona was driven by someone who is high on our wanted list," he said.

When he noticed the police, the suspect then accelerated before ploughing into the tent, added Ng.

"Besides the deceased, a 58-year-old woman and a two-year-old boy were also injured in the incident," he said, adding that Thamilarasan died from serious head injuries.

The suspects escaped by speeding off from the scene after the accident.
