No gun but student at Texas college goes on stabbing spree, wounding 14

A student went on a building-to-building stabbing attack at a Texas community college yesterday, wounding at least 14 people — many in the face and neck — before being subdued and arrested, the authorities and witnesses said.

The attack at about 11.15am yesterday (12.15am this morning in Singapore) at the Lone Star Community College north of Houston sent at least 12 people to hospitals, two of them in critical condition.

Student Diante Cotton, 20, said he was sitting in a cafeteria with some friends when a girl clutching her neck walked in, yelling: “He’s stabbing people! He’s stabbing people!”

Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia said it was not clear what type of weapon was used, although the injuries were mostly lacerations.

Students and faculty responded quickly to subdue the suspect, who is believed to have acted alone, even though the police had earlier searched for a second suspect, Mr Garcia added.

A 21-year-old male was detained but his name was not released.

The campus was on lockdown but is expected to reopen tomorrow.
