M1 offers Singapore's first WiFi roaming service

M1 today became the first local telecommunications provider to unveil a WiFi roaming service, allowing customers to access hotspots in more than 120 countries and territories.

This new service allows postpaid mobile users to enjoy unlimited data roaming with multiple devices upon successful connection to a hotspot. It costs $12 a day for roaming in Asia Pacific and America Regions, and $19 daily in the rest of the world.

Customers transiting between two regions in a day (i.e. travelling from Tokyo to Madrid within 24 hours) will be charged for both regions ($12 + $19).

This service compliments M1's existing suite of data roaming services, such as Data Roaming and Pay Per Use Roaming, which are tailored to curtail "bill shock" on data roaming charges.

To use this service, M1 customers have to download an application from Google Play Store or iTunes and set up a user profile before travelling overseas. The app then scans for WiFi hotspots from M1 partner networks. Users will only be charged if they successfully connect to WiFi hotspots through the application.
