The Singapore Lions were yesterday crowned as the Asean Football Federation’s National Team of the Year.
Four other from Singapore also clinched key awards at the inaugural AFF Awards 2013 ceremony which was held in Pahang, Malaysia.
Radojko Avramovic and Shahril Ishak, the coach and captain of the victorious team at the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup, clinched the Coach of the Year and Player of the Year awards respectively.
Singaporean match officials also secured two awards with Abdul Malik and Tang Yew Mun garnering the Referee of the Year and Assistant Referee of the Year accolades.
In addition to the individual awards, Singapore midfielders Shahril Ishak, Mustafic Fahrudin and defender Baihakki Khaizan were also named in the AFF’s First XI at this year’s awards.
Shahril said: “It was a great year for Singapore, and especially so when we attained the AFF Suzuki Cup for a record fourth time last December. It is a great honour for me, Bai and Mustafic to have been named in the first XI of this region. We will continue to work hard, build on our success and strive to further develop and improve Singapore football.”
