2 Singaporeans dead, one missing after boat accident in Malaysia

Two Singaporeans have died and one is still missing after the boat they were in collided with a fishing trawler off Pulau Layak in Pahang, Malaysia, on Sunday afternoon.

Here is a statement from a MFA spokesman:

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is aware of the boat accident involving Singaporeans off Pulau Layak in Pahang, Malaysia yesterday.

There were 8 Singaporeans on board the boat : 2 have passed away, 5 are injured and are receiving medical attention, and 1 is reported missing.

MFA is providing consular assistance to the Singaporeans and their families.

Officers from the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and the Consulate-General in Johor Bahru are on the ground to assist with the repatriation of the deceased and injured to Singapore.

They are also in touch with the Malaysian authorities on the search-and-rescue efforts for the missing Singaporean."
