A teenage girl was dragged 700m to her death after a speeding car hit the electric scooter which she and her mother were on.

According to Chinese website ChinaSmack, Ms Zhao Hong Ye was riding on the back of the electric scooter with her mother, Ms Xu Qiaoling, after the latter picked her up from a study session at night in Dajing, Hebei County in China on March 3.

A speeding car then hit them from behind.

The website reported that the impact caused severe head trauma to Ms Xu, while Ms Zhao was dragged under the vehicle.

However, instead of getting out of the vehicle to assist the wounded victims, the driver and his companions sped away in the car, with Ms Zhao still under the vehicle.

The car moved for 700m, all the while dragging Ms Zhao under the vehicle. She was then left by the roadside while the driver and his companions sped off at full speed.

They were later apprehended by Daming County Dajie Village Traffic Police and the County Police Station's special police officers.

According to ChinaSmack, a special task force has also been assembled to conduct further investigations. More officers have been ordered to examine the accident scene in detail.
