Flipper the 9-month-old kitten suffers from a twisted spine a disability that leaves her unable to walk normally. It forces to drag her hind legs as she walks.
Her hips and legs were left rooted at a 90 degree angle to her body, until the students from Blitz Robotic Club at Conifer High School in Conifer, Colorado heard of her plight and that she was going to be put down.
The students came together after Aspen Park Vet Hospital's Dr. Harry Gurney approached the students with a challenge to help Flipper walk, KDVR reported.
The students generated various 3D designs and after three tries they were able to develop one that worked. The paper reported that the device, called the "cat-traption", was put together with popsicle sticks and duct tape.
They are hoping that the device that has allowed the kitten to zoom around the clinic will help to strengthen her hind legs and loosen up her spine so that she will be able to get around without it.
