The body of a man in his 60s was found floating in Whampoa River near Block 38A, Bendeemer Road, yesterday morning.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics after his body was retrieved.

SCDF said it received a call at about 9.10am alerting it to the incident, and dispatched a fire engine and an ambulance to the scene. There were no visible injuries on the body, SCDF added. Police told My Paper that it is investigating the unnatural death.

Eyewitnesses told Chinese evening newspaper Lianhe Wanbao that the man was topless when he was pulled out of the water. They said that the body was not bloated, added the report.

Whampoa River is said to be a popular site for anglers and it is common for some to wade into the water to cast fishing nets, said Wanbao.
