SMRT was still making a net profit of S$25.5 million in the third quarter.

The transport operator, which faced train service disruptions and labour strikes last year, said this was due to higher operating expenses and bus losses.

On the other hand, group revenue for the three months ended December 31 rose 5 per cent to S$281.7 million.

The company said it expects staff costs for trains and buses, as well as maintenance costs for a larger train fleet, to drag profits lower for the next quarter to 12 months.
