Singapore's first gold at the ASEAN University Games 2012 was won by Gary Yeo with a timing of 10.44s in the 100m finals yesterday at Vientiane, Laos.

Calvin Kang came in third at 10.57s while Malaysia's Hadi Mohd Noor Imran won silver with 10.56s.

Aside from winning this 100m event, Gary Yeo set his new personal best by beating his 10.57s at the Olympics.

"I feel really good that I won. I wasn't feeling particularly motivated to run the race before. My coach, Mr Tan had to step in to give me a pep talk. There was a false start before the race and it psyched me up. And beating my personal best is an added bonus.

"I had a slight heel injury for the race but wasn't affected by it much. The race went according as planned so it was good. My next race is the 4x100m; the team targets 39.40s for gold. I hope we win," he said.
