Woman found dead after fire breaks out in Hougang

SCDF was alerted to a fire that broke out on the sixth floor of Block 413, Hougang Ave 10 on Monday at 3.23pm.

A woman was pronounced dead on arrival by SCDF paramedics on the ground floor, directly beneath the kitchen window where the fire had broken out.

SCDF personnel arrived on the scene within four minutes and had to force their way into the unit.

The fire was near the kitchen window where newspapers and kitchen products such as liquid detergents were found.

SCDF personnel also found the kitchen gas stove left in the 'on' position and there was no cooking on the stove.

The burnt area measured approximately 1m by 2m and the fire was put out with SCDF using one water jet. The kitchen walls sustained heat and smoke damages.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
