School bus fares are set to go up as operators face increasing operating costs.
Channel NewsAsia understood that fares are going up by 10 to 20 per cent, or between S$10 and S$40, depending on the distance.
Currently, parents pay between S$70 and S$175 a month.
Operators said smaller school buses may have steeper increases due to a requirement that all small buses must be equipped with seat belts by the end of last year.
Wong Ann Lin, chairman of Singapore School Transport Association, said: "The small buses used to be able to take about 15 passengers.
"But now, it can (only) take about 10 passengers, so that raised our operating costs.
"The fares are about S$100 now. They may go up by about S$20 to S$30."
