A 29 year-old male driver was swiftly arrested by Traffic Police for speeding off after he had hit a pedestrian along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 on 22 November 2012.
On 22 November 2012 at about 5.45 am, a pedestrian was crossing at the signalised pedestrian crossing in front of Block 475 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 when she was hit by an unknown car. As a result of the accident, the pedestrian suffered serious head injuries and was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Upon the arrival of Traffic Police at the accident scene, a witness came forward and provided brief information of the car, which was believed to be involved in the hit-and-run accident. Officers from the Traffic Police immediately launched an operation and conducted checks and enquiries to establish the car and subject involved in the accident.
The subject was arrested within 5 hours of the accident. Investigations are ongoing against the subject for the offences of Causing Grievous Hurt under Section 338 of the Penal Code and Hit-and-Run offences under Section 84 of the Road Traffic Act.
Commander of Traffic Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheang Keng Keong commended his officers for their prompt follow-up. He said, "Motorists involved in an accident have a legal duty to stop. They must never leave the accident scene. Where there are injured parties, the driver should render assistance such as summoning for an ambulance immediately. This could make a big difference between life and death."
