Serial vehicle thieves arrested

Two men aged 19 and 25 years old, were arrested after allegedly being involved in a spate of vehicle thefts and theft from vehicles.

The first suspect was arrested after being found in possession of a stolen lorry together with stolen items such as cash cards, cameras and mobile phones on Oct 1 in Geylang.

His suspected accomplice was arrested the next day in Ang Mo Kio.

Initial investigations showed that they were involved in at least 15 cases of vehicle thefts and theft from vehicles.

Their modus operandi would be to steal a vehicle and travel to another carpark in the stolen vehicle to steal from the vehicles there.

The stolen vehicle would then be dumped and discovered weeks later. The vehicles were stolen from areas in Sembawang, Ang Mo Kio and Sengkang.

If found guilty the pair face up to seven years in jail for stealing vehicles and the sentence can be extended by another three years and a fine for stealing from a vehicle.
