Patients with mental illnesses living in Yishun can now recuperate at a new rehabilitation centre in their community.

The Community Rehabilitation and Support Service (CRSS) (Yishun) centre was officially opened by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Law K Shanmugam yesterday.

The centre focuses on the reintegration of patients into their vicinity.

Since it started operating at the start of this year, the centre has been helping some 165 patients with mental illnesses.

"For people recovering from mental illness, recovering in the community is probably the best way in their journey towards recovery," said Mr Keith Chua, the vice president of Singapore Anglican Community Services.

This is the third CRSS centre managed by the Singapore Anglican Community Services.

The first centre is located in Bukit Batok and the second in Pasir Ris.

Singapore Anglican Community Services aims to serve 700 clients this year.
