Quoting from the Care for Kabang website, a Stomper sent in this article.
"Kabang the heroic dog.
"In December, 2011, a shepherd mix (Aspin) named Kabang saved two children from a potentially fatal accident.
"In the process she literally had her face ripped off.
"In fact, it is hard to believe that she is alive today; hard to imagine how she was able to survive such horrific injuries. But she is alive and being hailed a hero by those who have heard her amazing story.
"She is currently in USA after Kabang supporters raised enough money to send her there for an operation to close her wounds to prevent infection.
"Kabang's heroic deed has touched many around the world.
"Let's hope that Kabang recovers without complications and that her deed continue to touch the hearts of millions."
The incident happened in Zamboanga City, Philippines. An eyewitness said that Kabang threw herself head on onto an incoming motorcycle that might have fatally hit two children, Dina Bunggal, 9, and cousin Princess Diansing, 3.
The children escaped with a few bruises, according to a report in the Inquirer-News, but Kabang lost her entire snout. It had been jammed into the wheel of the motorcycle and was torn off with her jaw when the bike flipped.

Veterinarians at the University of California will attempt surgery on Kabang as it has been living with its open wounds since the accident.
Kabang will be undergoing stem cell treatment, say the UC surgeons. She will require multiple surgeries, but they are confident her condition can be improved.
US$20,000 (S$26,000) was raised in an internet campaign for Kabang's treatment.
