A 39-year-old who provided false contact information to obtain illegal loans from loansharks has been arrested.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division traced the suspect and subsequently arrested her in the vicinity of Serangoon Avenue 3 on Oct 11, at around 6pm.

In the preliminary investigations, the officers found out that she was a loanshark debtor and had used her previous residential address to obtain illegal loans.

This resulted in the owners of the previous residence being harassed by loansharks.

It seems that she failed to report change of her residential address under the National Registration Act.

Investigations against the suspect are still on-going.

Anyone found guilty of providing false contact information to obtain loans from loan sharks can be jailed up to 12 months and those who fail to report a change of address can be fined up to $5,000, jailed up to five years, or both.
