The police are investigating a case where a man had made a false police report about being robbed so that he could keep the money for himself.

The 44-year-old suspect had called '999' on Tuesday saying that he was robbed of about S$6,000 to S$7,000 while on his way to the bank to deposit proceeds from his company.

He claimed that the robbery happened near a carpark along Tanjong Pagar Road.

But investigators from the Central Police Division found inconsistencies in the man's story.
