Household expenditure surveys to be conducted on 11,000 homes

The Singapore Department of Statistics (DOS) will be conducting a Household Expenditure Survey (HES) from Oct 1 this year to Sept 30 next year.

Information on households' consumption expenditure, socio-economic characteristics, income and savings as well as ownership of consumer durables will be collected.

The data will be used to facilitate studies on household income and expenditure patterns and as inputs for the formulation of public policies. The HES data are also used to update the weighting pattern and the basket of goods and services used in the compilation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The Singapore Department of Statistics said in a statement that selected households will receive a notification letter from the Department informing of their participation and an information pamphlet with more details about the survey.

The first batch of selected households will cover areas in Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Bukit Batok, Chai Chee, Choa Chu Kang, East Coast and Telok Blangah.

The public can use the hotline between Members of the public who have queries on the survey may contact the hotline between 8.30 am to 10.00 pm from Monday to Sunday, including public holidays. Enquiries on the survey may also be sent to: singstat_hes@singstat.gov.sg

The HES will be conducted on 11,000 Singapore households over the 12-month period. It is conducted once every five years. All information collected will be kept strictly confidential.
