An Indonesian man attempted to enter Singapore on Sep 26 with 5.5kg of 'Ice' in his luggage.

Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) made the discovery during a routine check on his luggage as he tried to pass through the Green Channel at Changi Airport's Terminal 3.

During the check, officers noticed that the side and bottom of the man's bag was bulging. There was also black tape and powdery substance lining the interior side of the luggage. They pried it open to reveal the find.

In a separate incident later in the day, a 33-year-old Vietnamese woman who attempted to leave Singapore via Tuas Checkpoint was also detained after ICA officers found three slabs of 'Ice' in secret compartments of her luggage.

The drugs, which weighed about 11.2kg in total, had a combined street value of more than $1.68m.

If convicted, both the man and the woman may face the death penalty under the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA).
