For the second time running, Qatar Airways has been named the world's best airline at the annual Skytrax awards.

Asiana Airlines and Singapore Airlines took second and third spots respectively.

The awards, which honours the best in the aviation industry, was held last Thursday at the Farnborough Air Show in UK.

Over 18 million travellers were polled on what they thought about the services and offerings of the world's major airlines, both international and domestic, over a 10-month period.

Air travellers were surveyed about their experiences with airline services from check-in, boarding to inflight cabin cleanliness, seat comfort, food, in-flight entertainment and service standards of staff.

The Doha-based carrier also bagged two other awards: Best Airline Staff Service award and the Best Airline in the Middle East for the seventh consecutive year.

"Retaining awards is always difficult, but we have managed to do so amid the tough competition which only shows we remain focused in our day-to-day job of offering passengers what they fully deserve – the highest standards of service both in the air and on the ground," said Mr Akbar Al Bakar, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways.
