A man got into a two hour stand-off with the police and civil defence after a group of more than 10 people had tried to clear his house of trash according to a report by Shin Min Daily.
The incident took place at 10.30am on 29 June at an apartment of Block 114 at Toa Payoh Lorong 1.
The said group, comprising the police and civil defence officers, grassroot leaders, staff from the relevant authorities and relatives of the house owner had gathered outside the house in an attempt to enter so that they can clear the trash inside.
It is said that the man’s house is filled with rubbish such as chairs, mattresses, computers, pillows and plastic bags of junk, leaving the place with a stench. Neighbours have also been concerned that the apartment might become a possible fire hazard.
When the authority sent the group to clear the apartment, the man refused to let them in, resulting in a two hour stand-off. Eventually, they managed to reach an agreement with the man and gave him a seven day grace period so that he could clear the trash himself.
A relative of the man has also said that the man has stayed at the Institute of Mental Health before and that he refuses to let anyone touch his stuff, even his family.
