Tottenham's wantaway midfielder Luka Modric will be fined £80,000 after refusing to train with the team prior to their pre-season tour of the United States.

It is not clear if the Croat boarded the flight to the US on Saturday and Spurs have yet to release an official squad list for the tour.

Modric has been the subject of fevered speculation ever since Tottenham were pipped to the final Champions League spot by Chelsea after the Blues' triumph over Bayern Munich in the previous edition of the tournament.

The 26-year-old is reportedly keen to leave Tottenham for Real Madrid in the transfer window and it appears as if his reluctance to train was an attempt to force the move, according to The Telegraph.

However, the north London club have slapped a £40 million tag on the Croat and have refused to budge from that - turning down a £31 million package from the Spanish champions.

Tottenham play David Beckham's LA Galaxy in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Liverpool in Baltimore on Saturday and New York Red Bulls in New York on the Tuesday after that.
