Harian Metro reported about a 19-year-old man who slashed and strangled his mother after she had ticked him off for not fasting during the Ramadan month.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Goh Kok Liang said the incident took place at Kampung Redang Ponggor, Chenderong Balai, in Teluk Intan.

He said the victim, who is in her 40s, repeatedly scolded her son after he refused to fast.

Later, when the woman was preparing food for buka puasa (break of fast) in the kitchen, her son came at her with a parang.

"She tried to escape through the kitchen door but her son gave chase before slashing her on her arm and head. She was rushed to the Teluk Intan Hospital for treatment," he added.

ACP Goh said the suspect was detained the next day.
