Fewer motorcyclists and their pillion riders died on the roads in the first six months of this year.

Between January and June of this year, there were 35 motorcyclist fatalities.

In 2011, there were 53 for the same period.

For the whole of last year, 99 of the 195 lives lost on the roads were motorcyclists and their pillion riders.

In February this year, a two-tiered theory test structure for learner riders of Class 2B motorcyclists was implemented.

All learner riders are now required to pass two separate theory tests - Basic Theory Test and Riding Theory Test - before they can take the practical riding test.

Two more driving centres have also joined the Ride Safe campaign this year.

ComfortDelgro Driving Centre and the Singapore Safety Driving Centre, together with the Bukit Batok Driving Centre, have set up training circuits to provide motorcyclists with the chance to hone their riding skills.
