A husky was knocked down and killed by a taxi at Old Jurong Road on Saturday, June 30.

According to a netizen called David who wrote in to citizen journalism website Stomp, his sister was walking the dog at about 3pm on Saturday when it got startled and walked onto the road.

He relates that there were only a few cars on the road, and all the cars were able to stop at a distance, avoiding the husky known as Ah Boy.

That is, until a yellow cab appeared.

According to the netizen, an eyewitness who was jogging by said that it accelerated suddenly after slowing down, and seemed to 'deliberately ram' into the dog.

The husky limped back to the pavement, and with bystanders crowding around the dog and David's sister, the taxi allegedly sped off.

The husky cried in pain for about 10 minutes before he passed away, said David.

The owners are appealing for information about the taxi's car plate number.

Anyone involved in a hit-and-run accident can be fined up to $3,000 or jailed up to a year under the Road Traffic Act.

This is applicable even if the victim is an animal.
