A taxi driver accused for causing the death of a motorcyclist in May last year has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run case.

62-year-old Ng Chin Huat had allegedly hit the rear end of a motorbike while travelling on East Coast Parkway close to midnight on May 20 last year, but did not stop to help the victim he hit.

Hussain Abdullah Bagarib, 60, died as a result of the accident.

Ng was charged on Monday for allegedly failing to stop after the accident, failing to render assistance, and also for removing his vehicle from the scene of the accident.

He may be jailed for a maximum of two years and/or fined if found guilty of causing death due to his negligent act.

If found guilty for failing to stop, he could also be sentenced to a year in jail, penalised with a $3,000 fine and be banned from driving for at least one year.

For failing to stop and removing his vehicle after the accident, Ng could also face a $1,000 fine or three months' imprisonment on each charge.

He will face the court again on August 13.
