Police have arrested three men, aged between 34 and 42, for suspected involvement in several cases of theft from person on public buses.

Between 29 June 2012 and 5 July 2012, Police received several reports of theft from person on public buses including one which was reported on ‘STOMP’ on 1 July 2012 ( “Foreign pickpockets strike on bus: They cut pants to steal money from wallet”) where one of the suspects sat beside the victim on the bus, leaned against him and pretended to fall asleep while slitting the back pocket of the victim’s trousers and stole $100 from his wallet.

Following the reports received, officers from the Public Transport Security Command, Ang Mo Kio Police Division and Bedok Police Division pursued all available leads and through careful analysis of the cases, the identities of the three suspects were eventually established.

On 6 July 2012, the three suspects were arrested in Geylang. Cash about $1,000 was recovered and more than 140 pieces of razor blades and improvised holders were seized. Preliminary investigations indicated that the three suspects are believed to be involved in at least 7 cases of theft from person on public buses island-wide.

The three suspects will be charged in Court on 7 July 2012 for Theft with common intention under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries an imprisonment of up to three years, or with fine or both.
