'The world's highest rollercoaster' opens at 2.1km

Imagine sitting on the top of the world, with a view of mountains and rivers in front of you. Then imagine plummeting toward the ground the next moment.

Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Colorado offers an experience closest to plunging hellward, by introducing what it claims to be the world's highest roller coaster, according to news reports.

The Cliffhanger, which cost close to US$1 million (S$1.3 million) to build, is literally built on a cliff atop Iron Mountain, at an altitude of over 2.1km. It is the amusement park's latest attraction, on which park managers are placing their hopes.

The ride kicks off with a dramatic drop down, followed by a 360-degree turn and a sharp turn over the edge of the cliff. For those who are not faint-hearted, it offers a spectacular view of the valley and a canyon with the great Colorado River roaring below.
