Brunei's DPMM currently lead this season's Great Eastern-Yeo's S-League and the 2012 RHB Singapore Cup final in November could see a similar situation.
On Saturday night, Myanmar's KBZ FC, led by former Singapore coach P.N. Sivaji, progressed into the quarter-finals after shrugging off a placid Woodlands Wellington 2-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
KBZ FC will now face another foreign side in Loyola Meralco Sparks of the Philippines in the last eight, in a two-legged clash in July.
"You expect a cup game like this to be a high tempo affair…and I was surprised that Woodlands sat back to give us space and time to dominate and dictate proceedings," said Sivaji, who paid tribute to the 1,500-strong partisan crowd.
On Friday, Loyola edged out Geylang United 2-1, and Sivaji expects the meeting with the Filipino side to be a sizzler.
"It will be a good show, with a good crowd, against a team with good individual players," he said.
Soe Min Oo's third minute shot appeared to deflect off team-mate Mai Aik Naing to give the Myanmar side an early lead, with Tercio Nunez doubling the visitors' advantage with a 61st minute penalty.
Moon Soon Ho cut the deficit with another penalty goal three minutes later, but KBZ FC held on for the win.
Sunday night will see Gombak United taking on Malaysia's Harimau Muda "B" at the Jurong West Stadium while Tanjong Pagar host Hougang United at the Queenstown Stadium.
The winners of both matches face each other in the quarter-finals.
The last of the opening round fixtures will see Albirex Niigata (Singapore) against Laos' Yotha FC, with Tampines Rovers awaiting the winners in the last eight.
