Relief teacher loses job after online rant

A relief teacher has lost his job after his online rants about his pupils and their families went public.

The New Paper reported on Friday that Farouk Mya Aye, 23, an undergraduate from the National University of Singapore (NUS), was fired by Jiemin Primary School after screenshots of his rant were sent to local citizen journalism site, Stomp.

The Ministry of Education also confirmed that Mr Farouk has been struck off the register of relief teachers.

Mr Farouk how denies ever posting the derogatory comments and told The New Paper that they were doctored by acquaintances who were out to get him.

The 23-year-old also told the paper that he wanted to become a teacher upon graduation, but now feels that his chances have been destroyed by this incident.

He has made a police report, but the report makes no mention about the screenshots being doctored, reported The New Paper.

One online posting allegedly has him saying that one of his students deserved to be screamed at for being lazy, while another says, "some kids are so slow that you wonder why their parents were not fined for reproducing them."

The person who sent in the pictures spoke to The New Paper and insisted that they were not doctored.

The sender said that she was a relative of one of Mr Farouk's pupils and a fellow NUS undergraduate. She admitted to The New Paper that although she does not know him personally, she knows of him.

The pupil had had told her that Mr Farouk constantly screamed at the class. She then decided to check his Facebook and Twitter accounts where she discovered his rants.

She also added that she does not have the technical skills to doctor the screenshots that she had sent to the press.
