Police reach out to more people on mobile devices to fight crime

Police are reaching out to more people on mobile devices, as part of ongoing efforts to make better use of technology to stay ahead of crime and deepen partnerships with the community.

They have rolled out PoliceLife@SG, an in-house magazine Police Life Monthly on the iPhone platform, following its successful launch as an iPad app last year.

Police@SG, which was also launched last year for iPhone users, has also been released as an Android app this year. It has been downloaded more than 65,000 times.

The app provides information such as crime information in the neighbourhoods and crime prevention tips.

Police are looking at enhancements such as pop-up alerts and easy response to Police appeals for information.

Both apps provide easy access to information on the go, at the convenience of their fingertips.

Police said the upgrades are timely, as nine in 10 Singaporeans are expected to have a smartphone by the middle of this year.

Through these apps, Police hope to galvanise the community into action and participate in their initiatives and programmes to fight crime.
