A Stray Dogs Management Plan will be launched this week in Ang Mo Kio Town Garden West to manage nuisance strays.
Over the past six months, residents there
have filed over 30 complaints about stray dogs, saying they bark
aggressively, howl at night and even chase park users.
The solution: A 15m-by-25m enclosure into which the strays will be lured with food.
Under the initiative, strays will be rounded up in a dog enclosure and re-homed with those keen to adopt or foster them.
If successful, the plan - a joint effort by the National Parks Board (NParks) and animal welfare groups - could be adopted by other neighbourhoods plagued by problem strays.
NParks assistant director Tay Boon Sin said NParks will work with Ang Mo Kio Town Council to ensure it cuts off food sources for strays by clearing rubbish bins and securing bin centres, to improve the chances of catching them in the enclosure.
The initiative will be reviewed on a weekly basis.
