Mentally-ill woman shreds $10k in notes

A man brought 50,000 yuan (S$9,950) in shredded bills to a bank in China after his mentally-ill wife tore and cut them to pieces.

Mr Lin Zhaoqiang, who live in Chengdu, Sichuan, brought the shredded notes to a Bank of China branch to ask for help.

Chinese website ChinaSmack said 12 bank employees tried for six hours to splice the torn dollar bills together, but only managed to put together a single bill.

The shredded bills were first poured onto a 10m by 10m desk, which was completely covered in pieces of red notes. Bank employees were stunned.

The largest pieces were the size of of cigarette lighters. Those cut up by scissors were smaller than tea leaves.

ChinaSmack said there are regulations in China which allow torn notes to be exchanged for new ones if they are put back together properly.
