Intense storm topples 100 trees at Changi Beach Park

Some 100 trees were felled by intense storms and strong winds at Changi Beach Park over the weekend.

The National Parks Board issued a media statement saying 13 trees near the tracks at the popular coastal park were uprooted on Sunday afternoon, and about 100 fallen trees were found deeper in the park's wooded areas.

It said exceptionally strong localised winds had resulted in the toppled trees. Heavy rains over the weekend had also softened the soil in the area. Another 10 trees were also affected by strong winds in other parts of Singapore.

Weather reports can be obtained from radio broadcasts, through the National Environment Agency's weather forecast hotline at 6542 7788, its website www.nea.gov.sg, the mobile weather service at weather.nea.gov.sg or Twitter at @NEAsg.
