Former Singapore Exchange (SGX) CEO Mr Hsieh Fu Hua has been appointed as the new President of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) Board by the Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Mr Chan Chun Sing.

Mr Hsieh will preside for the next two-year term, from August 1 this year.

NCSS is the umbrella body for about 400 member Voluntary Welfare Organisations in Singapore. It provides leadership to nurture and develop the social service sector through enhancing the capabilities of social service organisations and promoting strategic partnerships for social services.

Mr Hsieh, who has been in the financial industry for nearly four decades, was a champion for SGX's annual fund-raiser, now known as the "Bull Charge".

In 2004, the SGX organised the initial charity run, then known as the "Bull Run", which rallied the support of SGX stakeholders and Singapore's financial industry to help charities in need, including beneficiaries under the care of Community Chest, the fund-raising arm of NCSS. Since its inception, a total of $16 million has been raised for various charitable causes.

Apart from setting up BinjaiTree, a privately-run charity that gives out grants to various organisations that help improve the lives of the disadvantaged, in 2009, he also helped establish two new charities, namely Shared Services for Charites and Caregiver Alliance Limited.

He will replace RADM (RET) Kwek Siew Jin, who will complete his term as NCSS president on July 31. He first joined the NCSS Board as Vice-President in 2004 and is currently serving his third term as President of NCSS Board.
