Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang awarded to Royal Malaysia Police Chief

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), of the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), Tan Sri Haji Ismail Bin Haji Omar was conferred the Distinguished Service Order (Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang) by President Tony Tan Keng Yam earlier this month at the Istana.

With over 40 years of policing experience, Tan Sri Haji Ismail’s contribution to policing is vast and commendable.

Given the close proximity, historical links and close relationship with Malaysia, Singapore has benefited from Tan Sri Haji Ismail’s active and significant contributions in the promotion of bilateral ties between the Royal Malaysia Police, Singapore Police Force and the Internal Security Department.

Cooperation with the Royal Malaysia Police in the areas of investigation, training and sharing of intelligence and information has yielded tremendous operational successes for both countries in combatting terrorism and transnational crime.

Tan Sri Haji Ismail’s advocacy of extensive bilateral co-operation has also led to the deepening of ties and development of exceptional rapport between officers of both countries.

Under Tan Sri Haji Ismail’s leadership, the Royal Malaysian Police provided valuable operational assistance to the Singapore Police Force in solving significant cross-border criminal cases as well as busting organised crime syndicates.

The long-standing liaison meetings between both Forces on matters in criminal investigations, commercial crime investigations as well as maritime security have also seen greater sharing of information and closer co-operation.

The investiture ceremony on 4 May was preceded by an Inspection of Prestige Guard by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Haji ismail Bin Haji Omar.

Tan Sri Haji Ismail had also called on Acting Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Teo Chee Hean at New Phoenix Park earlier that day.
