11 people hospitalised for smoke inhalation from Marsiling Rd fire

Eleven people were rushed to the hospital after a fire broke out at Block 4 on Marsiling Road on Friday morning.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the fire shortly at 10.13am.

One fire engine, one red rhino, two fire bikes, one support vehicle and four ambulances rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, thick black smoke could be seen as the fire raged on at the 11th floor.

SCDF said the fire involved discarded items and was confined to the lift lobby area.

Fire fighters, wearing breathing apparatus equipment, extinguished the fire using two water jets within 10 minutes.

SCDF made a forcible entry into 18 units located on the affected floor and rescued seven occupants.

Together with the police, SCDF evacuated about 15 occupants staying one floor above and below the affected floor.

A first aid point was also set up at the ground level void deck area of the incident location to provide immediate medical treatment for residents who felt unwell because of the fire.

A total of 11 casualties - two boys, five men and four women were conveyed to the hospital by SCDF ambulances for smoke inhalation.

Two children were sent to Kandang Kerbau Women's and Children's Hospital for smoke inhalation. The other nine casualties were sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
