A Singaporean woman who is wheelchair-bound has pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to a charge of trafficking in a 22-day-old baby for the purpose of exploitation.
Lee Hwee Bin, 36, was charged with trafficking in the baby outside a Starbucks Coffee outlet in shopping mall Jaya Jusco Bukit Tinggi at about 11.30am on April 6, reported Bernama news agency on Tuesday.
She was charged under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Immigrants Act, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and fine upon conviction.
Judge Norsyaridah Awang said she could not allow bail on Lee as the accused did not possess any valid travel document. She also set May 24 for re-mention of the case, according to the report.
