Man gets 12 months' jail for taking drugs, assaulting police

A 23-year-old man was jailed a total of 12 months today for two offences - nine months for drug consumption and three months for assaulting a police officer.

Muhammad Iqbal Bin Azman, who was under police investigation for two other offences, had evaded police arrest on Oct 15 last year.

He managed to flee from the police by punching a plain-clothes police officer and running through the glass door of a fast food restaurant at White Sands Shopping Centre.

The police searched the vicinity but were unable to locate him.

The police officer suffered an open wound on the upper lip and was given two days of medical leave.

A month later, on Nov 14, Muhammad Iqbal was arrested at Marsiling Rise.

Police investigations revealed that he had consumed methamphetamine earlier that morning.
