Police have arrested a 20-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for at least three cases of snatch thefts in Marsiling housing estate.
Since end March 2012 to mid April 2012, Police received three reports of snatch thefts being committed in the vicinity of Marsiling Drive.
In all three cases, the victims were lone females seen carrying their smart mobile phones. These reports suggested that the same culprit is believed to be responsible for the different cases.
Following these reports, officers from Jurong Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and investigative probes based on the analysis of information provided.
During an ambush on 13 April 2012 at about 12.00pm , the officers’ efforts were finally paid off when they spotted a male subject fitting the description of the culprit, behaving suspiciously along Admiralty Road . The officers decided to move in and placed the suspect under arrest.
The accused will be charged in Court on 14 April 2012 for Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries a minimum imprisonment term of 1 year and a maximum term of 7 years and shall also be liable to caning.
A Court order will be sought to remand him for further investigations on his possible involvement in other cases.
