Man arrested at Queensway for donation scam

Police arrested a 49-year-old man who is believed to have cheated some residents along Cantonment Road sometime last month.

The man allegedly asked residents for donations claiming that a cleaner was killed while working in the housing estate. The monetary donations were to go to the deceased's family and the funeral.

Residents who gave him money later found out that the claims were false and made police reports.

Officers from Central police division managed to establish the identity of the suspect and mounted an ambush at Queensway yesterday afternoon.

The suspect was arrested and investigations show that he is believed to be behind at least five similar cases.

He will be charged in court on Thursday, April 12 for Cheating. If convicted he faces a maximum jail term of ten years and a fine.
