Police are investigating a man and woman aged 21 and 22 years old respectively for making false police reports on two separate incidents.
On 6 March 2012 at about 11.07pm, the man contacted the Police and reported that his house at Bukit Purmei was broken-into, ransacked and money could have been stolen. In a separate incident, the woman reported to the police that she was molested along Lavender Street on 7 March 2012 at about 1.50 am which had subsequently led to the arrest of two male persons.
Upon receipt of both Police reports, officers from Central Police Division conducted a thorough on-scene investigation, extensive enquiries and follow-up investigations. In the course of the investigation in both cases, many discrepancies were detected and thus made their allegation doubtful.
Subsequent interviews with both persons revealed that they have concocted the report. The man had lodged a false report due to some family grievances while the woman had done so over a dispute. Investigations against them are ongoing.
Anyone who is convicted for giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
Commander of Central Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Tan Hung Hooi warned that Police would take stern action against anyone giving false information to a public servant and thus utilizing police resources that could otherwise be put to better use.
