MCYS calls for more taxis to serve disabled

GOOD EXAMPLE
As part of its initiatives to improve the lives of persons with disabilities, the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) is inviting taxi operators to propose and operate a service that can accommodate different types of wheelchairs.

The ministry aims to get such vehicles on the roads before the London Cabs are taken off permanently, Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Community Development, Youth and Sports) Sam Tan said yesterday.

The licences for London Cabs were recently extended and will expire by March next year.

MCYS will also be developing more long-term transport options for persons with disabilities, who are unable to utilise public transport, by working with voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs).
