According to The Straits Times, the 46-year-old former coach driver sexually abused his 11-year-old niece more than 20 times between Jan and Jun 2005.
His acts of abuse began when he started fondling the girl's breasts when she went into his room to use a computer at her grandmother's flat.
After that incident, he became more brazen and would regularly visit his niece and molest her.
He would often pull up whatever top she was wearing and grope her.
On one occasion, he locked her in her room and forced her to perform oral sex on him.
The man only stopped when the girl's mother started knocking loudly at the door to find out what the two were doing in the room.
He hurriedly instructed his niece to get dressed and pretend to be asleep, while he lied to the girl's mother and claimed that he was praying.
Skeptical, the woman asked the girl but she was too afraid to tell her mother the truth.
The man had warned his niece not to tell anyone about the sex acts and hinted that he would do worse things to her if anyone found out.
On another occasion, he told his niece that he would do something 'special' to her on his birthday.
This only scared the girl, who tried to stay later in school, knowing that her mother was away at work.
However, when the girl returned home, her uncle still molested her on the sofa while her mother was in the kitchen.
Her uncle was rough on her and had caused her pain during this incident.
The young girl also took to dressing and behaving like a boy to avoid attracting her uncle's attention.
She confided in her best friend in school, and was eventually persuaded by her friend to tell her family what happened, and to lodge a police report.
Altogether, the man forced his underaged niece to perform oral sex on him five times.
The man, who is married and has a young child, has pleaded guilty to six counts of molestation and two counts involving oral sex.
He has been sentenced to 11 years and 3 months' jail, and 18 strokes of the cane.
