Malaysian FA Cup: Defending champions Terengganu, LionsXII make last eight

Defending champions Terengganu FA beat Perak 1-0 through a set piece move from their Brazilian import Erison Baiano da Silva's free kick which rammed off the wall in the 48th minute into the path of the 2011 MVP Ashaari Shamsuddin who unleashed a fierce left footer into the top corner for the game's only goal.

Across the causeway, LionsXII downed NS Betaria FC 2-0 when skipper Shahril Ishak received a pass from Isa Halim in the 55th minute and ghosted past three defenders before bundling home the game's opening goal with a left footed pile driver past keeper Faizal Yusoff.

Yusoff had to pick out the ball out the net again in the 84th minute when Shahdan caught the Betaria defence napping with a crafty backheel which gave Sufian Anuar the time and space to slot home the second for the home side.

Veterans Kedah played a 3-2 thriller in front of a 20,000 strong crowd and got the opener from Mohd Khyril Muhymeen Zamri in the 7th minute only for Perlis to equalize from Mohd Rizal's 21st minute strike.

Kedah notched once with Amar Rohidan's bundle in the penalty box and Khyril added his second in the 31st minute with a nice header from Badrol Bakhtiar's corner kick however a 66th minute gol by Henry Lewis for Perak ended the heated encounter.

The other cracker of a match was Kelantan's 3-2 win over Kuala Lumpur at the Sultan Mohammed IV Stadium where Norfarhan Mohammed struck the first goal in the 30th minute before Afiq Azmi headed the equaliser from Hishamuddin Othman's pin-point pass.

Only four minutes lates Indra Putra found the back of the net, as did team-mate Badhri Radzi in the 70th minute before Fazuan Abdullah secured a consolation goal in stoppage time.

Premier Leaguers Sime Darby beat USM FC 2-0 with Patrick Ronaldingo's early opener in the 4th minute before veteran Zamri Hassan added another in the 30th minute in the afternoon game.

Johor FC and Selangor were tied 2-2 with Azidan Saruddin's opener for Selangor in the 30th minute before Asraruddin Putra put their team up with another in the 56th minute however Fauzi Shaari promptly equalized in the 59th minute and Arthuro Bernhardt grabbed the dramatic equalizer.

Regulation time came and went and goalie Mohd Anis Faron Ahmad saved his team with a great block on K. Solihin's penalty kick in the sudden death shoot-out to make the score 5-4.

The Kuala Lumpur SPA or Public Service commission side got a late winner against Cambodian side Preah Khan Reach in the 52nd minute from a strike by Zulkifli Affendi Zakri at the Bukit Jalil Stadium ending the match 0-1.

The day before T-Team won Pahang 3-2 when Hazuan Daud's powerful shot from the edge of the box gave the visitors the lead after 49 minutes at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Terengganu.
T-team took only six minutes to level matters, Azrul Hazan drilling the ball home.

The home side's advantage was not to last long however, this time Pahang leading scorer Azamuddin Akil curling a 58th minute corner past the stunned T-Team goalkeeper Syamsuri Mustafa.

Unbowed, T-team hit back and drew level for the second time courtesy of former international Fadzli Saari's spectacular strike on 63 minutes.

With both teams pushing for the win, it was, however, T-Team who were to have the last laugh, Faiz glancing a header past Wan Azrain Wan Teh in the 94th minute to ensure his side's progress to the last eight.

Terengganu FA will play host to LionsXII next with Sime Darby FC hosting Johor FC before Kelantan FA meet Kuala Lumpur SPA FC and Kedah to meet T-Team FC.
